Microsoft will be releasing SQL Server 2008 R2 in the first half of 2010.  This presentation will give an overview of all the new features of the release. At a very high level there will be an overview of: Complex Event Processing, Multi Server Management, Madison, and Master Data Services.  Then there will be more detailed overview and demonstrations around new features related to Business Intelligence.

Learn how to use the new maps in Reporting Services by associating the maps to your datasets in Report Builder 3.0.  See how SQL servers geospatial capabilities can be leveraged along with Bing Maps in reports.  Report Builder 3.0 also has a new component toolbox allowing authors to sharer reporting components with other authors in the enterprise.

Then we will explore how Self Service Analysis (Gemini) brings together Excel, SharePoint and SQL Server to empower the business analyst to create and share great reports.  Gemini helps to alleviate the traditional IT bottlenecks that slow the business down, but at the same time Gemini ensures IT visibility in to the process fostering a long term cooperative partnership between IT and the analysts.

Ted Tasker will be presenting.  Ted is a Technology Solution Professional – SQL Server, based in Los Angeles and working for Microsoft since joining them in June 2008.  While still relatively new to the company, Ted has experience with SQL Server going back 15 years to version 4.21.  He also has over 10 years of experience focused on DW and BI using the Microsoft stack.  As Director of Business Systems at Disney Online, he leveraged SQL 7.0 OLAP and Proclarity to deliver web based analytics.  As FVP at IndyMac Bank, he used Microsoft’s DDRK (Digital Dashboard Resource Kit) to deliver executive dashboarding and then migrated to SharePoint when that product started supporting dashboards.
